Estate Planning In Uncertain Times
As the COVID-19 crisis continues to evolve in Oklahoma, we want to assure you that estate planning, elder law, and probate attorney Kevin L. Miller, PC is here and thinking of you.
It may seem like we are coming out of the COVID-19 crisis, but it is far from over. These turbulent times have caused many of us to think about the steps we might take to confirm that our affairs are in order and that we have provided for our family members and love ones.
To aid in that review, we provide the following tips:
First, perform an estate plan check-up. Review your existing estate plan documents and consider whether there are any changes to your family and financial circumstances that would necessitate an update to those documents. If you have no estate plan, then now is the time to remedy that.
Second, does someone else know where you keep your important documents, computer passwords, a list of key advisors? Is the person you have designated to serve as your successor trustee aware of and willing to serve in that role?
Third, do you have Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care and an Advance Health Care Directive in place should you become incapacitated or disabled? These documents will allow loved ones to direct your medical teams and help you get the level of healthcare that you want. These documents are imperative in times like these.
We want you to know that our offices are fully operational. We are available to prepare new trusts, will, powers of attorney, and other important documents. We can update your estate plan. In either instance, we can help you comply with the requisite signing formalities so that your new documents can take effect as quickly as possible.
Our offices are open Monday thru Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. We can be reached at 405-943-6650 ext. 324 or at 405-443-5100 or by email at Kevin at kevinmillerpc.com.
